ICOMS Vienna 2005: Congress for Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery

Telenavigation with the Vodafone Mobile Connect Card from A1

Within the framework of this congress on September 2nd, Dr. Michael Truppe from Karl Landsteiner Institute for Biotelematics, one of the pioneers of computer-assisted surgery, demonstrates an exciting innovation: for the first time ever it is possible to interact with an live operation by means of a Vodafone Mobile Connect Card via Laptop. Any number of these so-called telenavigation clients can simultaneously and independent of one another have live interactive access – in a visual quality that has previously been unknown – of critical phases of operations. A normal Vodafone Mobile Connect Card from A1 makes an Internet connection with up to 384 kBit/sec, and doctors and students can take part in operations across geographic distances, within the scope of their training, as well as in teleconsultations for particularly complex cases.

Technologically at the Cutting Edge of Telemedicine
For Telekom Austria and mobilkom austria involvement at the ICOMS is a good opportunity to prove their technology leadership in telemedicine applications in the wireline as well as in the wireless segment, at a highly regarded forum. The Telekom Austria Group wants to position itself more strongly in the future as a telemedicine technology partner, particularly against the background of e-Health as a focus of the European "i2010" strategy.
